Can I Start Already? Maybe…

If you have read my blog, I guess last year, you probably remember my saying that I was going to “re-launch” in November. That never really happened. Then at the end of January, I brought it up again in January where I had visited my blog for the first time since the whole “re-launching” post.  And here it is April and not much has been going on at all – maybe a few random thoughts I had, but what about Product Creation training?   That’s what my blog is about.

Well, thanks to Connie Ragen Green, I’m about to get the kick in the pants that I need.  Connie has just launched her 30 Day Blogging Challenge!  It starts today, April 10, 2010. The goal of this challenge is to post 30 times to your blog in 30 days.  You don’t have to post a post every day – it’s not about blogging daily.  The challenge is about building your blog by adding content and starting a habit by having a goal to add content regularly.  Within a month, you will have 30 new pieces of content in your blog.  Remember, your blog is an information product – YOUR information product.

Another benefit of joining Connie’s challenge is that you get the opportunity to meet new people and network in your niche. Just by reading the comments on the 30 Day Blogging Challenge post, I have found a person in one of my other niches who I think has information that will benefit the visitors of my website. Her blog has good content that I can link to for my visitors to read.  But this leads to my next pet peeve/observation/tip or whatever you want to call it:

I can’t contact her because she has no contact information! What?  There is no contact form or email address on her blog.  I did manage to find a Twitter link on her page – I can send her a direct message on Twitter  all of 140 characters!

Now with that said, I had a few other things on my mind.  First, 30 posts seems like a lot. How will I ever think of 30 things to write about in 30 days.  Well it’s not too difficult.   Creativity can often go out on tangents (I had about 100 ideas just trying to find Ms. Lady’s email address).  So it’s not about not having ideas, it’s about remembering the ideas you have and getting them into your blog.  I will discuss a tip for that in another post.

Another thing is that I finally setup my Facebook page.  I’m having some trouble getting my little /myname thing going in the URL as it seems Facebook wants to text me something to my phone.  I guess if your phone doesn’t want to be bothered with text messages, then you are just out of luck having a /myname thing.   That wasn’t the point, the point was that I signed up for the Networked Blogs application. If I haven’t removed it you should see it on the right (a requirement to “verify” that I own this blog).   It allows you to network with other blogs and follow other folk’s blogs on Facebook (sorry that’s all I know about it at this point).

So, that’s three positive things (well, two and a half until I find the lady’s contact info) that have resulted as part of the challenge.

Now, if you have FaceBook please add me as I don’t have many friends :)

Update: I got my /myname thing working. Please add me as a friend http://facebook.com/gatanner

    Hi Gwen,

Interesting concept. 30 posts in 30 days. I wish you the best on that one! I know I couldn’t do it. As it is I have only just got myself into a pattern of about every 5 days in posting.

I do agree that our blogs are an information product I guess that is why I have been so dedicated to continuing with my JT series. I have found that working on a series of posts is what works for me in developing content.

I have your blog in google reader so I will look in anticipation. You are now accountable!! ;)

Good Luck!! I will be checking up on you and keeping you to your word!! :P

    cheers
